Abby Birch

She/Her

Abby is a Master’s student collaborating with the Ka:’yu:’k’t’h’/Che:k’tles7et’h’ (Kyuquot/Checleseht) First Nations to understand the impacts of sea otter recovery on nearshore ecosystems. During her undergraduate research, she investigated the effects of shipping noise on the shore crab Hemigrapsus oregonensis. Abby’s work aims to improve our understanding of anthropogenic impacts on coastal ecosystems, with the goal of supporting informed management practices. She resides on the unceded territory of the səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations. In her spare time Abby enjoys hiking, reading, baking, and exploring the tide pools of BC’s coast!
