Where We Are Located
While we work along the northwest coast of the Pacific Ocean, our lab is based on Lhuḵw’lkuḵw’áyten (Burnaby Mountain), which means "where the bark gets peeled in the spring" in the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) language. This name is derived from the word for the arbutus tree, lhulhuḵw’ay or "always peeling tree."
We encourage you to listen and practice the pronunciation of the mountain's name (ímesh App), as an action to respect and uplift the səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations on whose unceded traditional territory SFU Burnaby resides and whose relationships and responsibilities to the land, waters, and skies continue to this day.
On Lhuḵw’lkuḵw’áyten, we are in the Teaching and Science Complex 1 building (TASC 1).
