Alyssa Allchurch

She/Her

Alyssa joined the lab as a PhD student in 2024. She earned her Masters in Resource Management in 2023, where she worked alongside the Kwakiutl Nation to better understand how commercial kelp harvest was affecting kelp forests in Kwakiutl territory and how those kelp forests were reacting and recovering after harvest. Formerly she worked for a non-profit that focused on increasing the capacity and skillsets of marine managers globally to initiaite conservation and management action in their communities. Her PhD explores the impacts kelp encrusting bryozoans are having on kelp forests across the pacific coast and what actions people can take to mitigate the negative consequences. Alyssa lives on the unceded territory of the Lkwungen peoples, where she enjoys scuba diving, paddling, swimming, hiking and reading.
