Kaia Bryce
Kaia joined the lab as a Master’s student in 2025. They are fascinated by social-ecological systems and the tangled web of kelp forest ecosystems. For their master’s thesis, they will be working with the Heiltsuk Nation to examine the role of small-scale harvest on kelp management within a changing climate. As a Japanese-Canadian with a foot on either side of the Pacific Ocean, I have a deep appreciation for the salty flavours of coastal culinary traditions! I am privileged to call Xwe’etay/Lasqueti Island home: an island the Salish Sea deeply embedded in the layered histories of Coast Salish peoples.
