Kim-Ly Thompson

She/Her

Kim-Ly is a PhD candidate working with the Gitga’at Nation (Ts’msyen) and Haida community of HlGaagilda (Skidegate) to learn and demonstrate how past, present and future relationships and actions can help seafood systems be resilient to change. These interdisciplinary projects include mapping the impacts of colonial governance and ecological perturbations on contemporary foodways, sharing lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic, and working alongside youth to experimentally learn how to take care of butter clam fisheries for the future. She is of mixed Viet-European ancestry and is grateful for all the lessons she has received in formal academic settings and while harvesting, cooking, and sharing meals with loved ones around Hartley Bay. She recently moved from Ts’msyen to Haida homelands and is forever learning about the intricacies of relationships that span the Pacific Ocean. You can find her out by the beach, bog or forest with her partner and dogs, or minding her pressure canner.
