Michèle Grenier
She/Her
Michèle is a Master’s student with the Ocean Relations Collaborative. She is originally from Québec (located on the traditional lands of the Huron-Wendat, Innus, Atikamekw and Wolastoqey peoples), where she completed a BSc in Natural and Managed Environments at Université Laval in 2021. Her interest in exploring people's varied roles within ecosystems brought her to the Coast to engage in co-produced, community-based research in collaboration with Coastal First Nations. She is grateful to live and play on the traditional territories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish) and Lil̓wat7úl (Lil’wat) Nations.
For her Master's project, Michèle is part of the Coastal Voices initiative, focusing on the relationships between people, sea otters, and other coastal predators to support the Indigenous-led management of this keystone predator. Michèle is interested in combining Indigenous knowledge, field experiments, and social-ecological modeling to enhance our understanding of sea otters' interactions with their predators, with the ultimate goals of supporting coexistence, Indigenous environmental stewardship, and food sovereignty. Michèle is honored to be part of the Coastal Voices initiative and is grateful for the opportunity to work with and learn from the people of the Coast.
