Nicklaus is an applied marine ecologist with experience working on conservation initiatives in nearshore ecosystems. He joined the lab as an undergraduate student in 2023, and conducted a spatial analysis of clam growth rates in the traditional territory of the Kyuquot/Checleseht and Heiltsuk peoples to inform the revitalization of ancestral clam tending practices. Nicklaus is passionate about working collaboratively with local communities to ensure health and functionality of marine ecosystems for future generations. For his Masters work, Nicklaus is continuing to work alongside the Kyuquot/Checleseht First Nations to identify community priorities and co-develop research objectives. Nicklaus lives on the unceded and traditional territory of the Katzie peoples, and has an interest in beachcombing, swimming, scuba diving, bouldering and playing or listening to music.
